Come to Portslade, you'll get full smoked': Two teenage girls are filmed threatening to KILL fellow passengers on an evening commuter train

One of the girls stands up as they threaten the other passengers

Two teenage girls, thought to be around the age of 15, were filmed by bystander threatening a group of boys on the train with verbally violent and abusive language. The two girls under the influence shout over to a group of boys and threaten to 'rob' and 'smoke'. The video was filmed on the 7pm train from Shoreham-By-Sea to Portslade, by passenger Michelangelo Thompson, who posted it on social media site Facebook with the caption: "If these were my daughters, I'd be embarrassed". After being posted on facebook, this video circulated fast having been viewed more than 104,000 times and has gained 1,396 comments and 1,243 shares. A spokesman from British Transport Police said that they have been made aware of the incident and are making enquiries however audience reaction has shown that people believe that not enough is done to prevent or punish anti social behaviour from the youth of today, leaving many disgusted and disappointed.

This news story is soft news as it is an example of a human interest story that audiences may read for surveillance - information about what is going on in society - and to divert themselves from their own life and take a look into someone elses whilst forming an opinion on what is being reported and sharing that with others who may (or may not) have the same view as them. This news story supports the target audience of the Daily Mail as they have more of a mature reading and that audience type would be more inclined to have an opinion on this type of report.

School to teach boys that they too can have periods in move ‘to be inclusive of all genders’

Sex education lessons for children at school will now include information about transgender people

Teachers in a primary school will give relationship education classes where boys will be told that they too can have periods, in a move to tackle stigma around menstruation described as “insanity”. Bins used for ‘time of the month’ waste products will also be installed in male toilets on the premises so girls won’t feel “shame” when asking for the disposable items. The measures approved by officials in Brighton & Hove City Council are broadly in line with calls for more discussion in schools around LGBT issues. It added: “Trans boys and men and non-binary people may have periods”, and says “menstruation must be inclusive of ‘all genders’.”

This is an example if soft news which discusses the popular topic of identity politics and the argument about gender neutrality - people may read this article for surveillance, personal identity (as they feel they may relate to the issues being presented) and personal relationships (different groups of people will have different opinions on this topic and may come together to argue their point). This article is reflective of the awareness the i news has on identity politics - the i has previously reported stories to do with identity politics and essentially give this topic relevance in the media without giving off too much of an opinion on it themselves. When reporting, the i has quite a broad, neutral approach on this topic rather than being bias and reflecting personal ideologies - they would rather leave this to the reader.
