My media consumption

Newspapers

I don't read any daily newspaper's. When I do read newspapers I read all of the main stories about politics, economy and the rest of the world first to keep up to date with the most important and relevant stories and then go to the celebrity news section because it is entertaining. I rarely ever read the sports section because it is not of interest to me. Whenever I read a newspaper it is somebody else's as I don't go out of my way to buy a newspaper as I keep up to date with the news on my phone. I tend to read online newspapers and use the news app on my phone. Online I look on the 'getwestlondon' news page to keep up with news in and around my area.

Magazines

I never buy magazines and do not read magazines. When I have read magazines they have usually been health and beauty magazines or fashion magazines and I read the fshion, health, beauty and celebrity sections.

Television

I watch around 8-14 hours of television per week, usually in the late evening and sometimes during the day if I am at home. When I watch TV I tend to watch reality TV or movies that are on however I mostly use netflix and BBC iplayer to watch programmes. Most of the time I watch TV alone or with my mum. If whoever in my house is watching the news, sometimes I will pay attention to it. Majority of the time I watch TV on demand and not live. Sometimes I watch TV on demand on my iPad but most of the time I watch it on TV.

Radio

I usually listen to the radio when I am in a car without an aux cord. The radio stations I like best are 'Westside' radio station, 'Capital xtra' and 'Citylock radio' because they play the music genre's I like to listen to. I don't enjoy listening to radio stations that only talk about the news and a specific subject, for example politics. I probably spend around less than an hour a week listening to the radio which could be at any point during the day.

Cinema

In the last month I have seen 'Annabelle: the creation' and 'IT' in the cinema. In the last month I have seen many films through Netflix, film channels on TV and online movie sites. Some of the movies I've seen in the past month are Okja, The mummy, Barbershop 3 and The call. When I watch films I either watch them alone or whoever I am with at the time and the movie of choice is picked through a joint decision. I usually use my TV and PS4 to watch films.

Online

I access the internet throughout the day, every day. I access the internet at home, at school and when I'm out. The main sites I access are google, and shopping sites. I use google often if I need to find out information about something in the moment and I use shopping sites often for purchases such as clothes etc. Another reason I use the internet is to look at news stories in more depth by searching just about that one specific story. I don't really use the internet for any other reasons besides retrieving information or online shopping. Most of the time I use my phone or iPad to access the internet and rarely use a laptop or computer- my phone is my primary device for accessing the internet. The social networks I use regularly are Snapchat and Facebook but before I used to use Instagram the most. I belong to these type of social networks in particular because they are easy to use and everybody has them so it is the easiest way to communicate with peers.

Reflection

I can develop the amount and variety of media I consume by using different media sources to find out information such as reading a newspaper or reading a wider range of type of articles with in newspapers and magazines. As a result of studying A Level media I will broaden my media consumption by changing habits such as reading the news online and instead watch it on TV or buy a newspaper. The three sources of media that I will begin to access this year that I haven't engaged with previously is newspapers, different genre of TV programmes and a wider range of websites online.
